About the Council

What is the Family Violence Coordinating Council?

  • A body of decision makers from agencies and organizations that have contact with family members and family violence, child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse.
  • Representatives from health, clergy, schools, law enforcement, judiciary, public defenders, prosecution and social services.

What is the purpose of the Family Violence Coordinating Council?

  • Promote a coordinated response to family violence in our communities.
  • Encourage effective family violence prevention, education and intervention strategies.
  • Develop programs that improve the court's ability to serve the community in matters related to domestic violence.

What does the Family Violence Coordinating Council do?

  • Organize, plan and sponsor conferences, workshops, and training on many aspects of family violence.
  • Develop and distribute domestic violence protocols with community service providers.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to identify needs, develop resources, and plan for service implementation.
  • Work together with the Illinois State Council to enhance communication and promote public awareness and outreach.
